The African American Partnership for Global Enterprise and Commerce (AAPGEC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, international trade organization that is singularly dedicated to promoting and enhancing the performance of growth-oriented African American businesses and entrepreneurs in the global economy. Based in Washington, D.C.--one of the world’s pivotal international business capitals, AAPGEC is uniquely positioned to mobilize, maximize, and leverage the necessary institutional resources and capabilities essential for advancing market access and business expansion on behalf of its constituents.

BACKGROUND

Evolving advances in transportation and telecommunications technologies have led to the rapid increase in international commerce, with impact on the performance of both multinational corporations and small and medium sized enterprises. In today’s international marketplace, the cross border movement of goods, services, ideas, talent, and capital has led to intense competition for market share and profitability. And in this challenging and volatile environment, in one degree or another--even some of the most localized businesses are increasingly affected by the nuances of this new borderless global economy.

Many regions, countries, and communities across the globe are enthusiastically reaping the lucrative benefits of international commerce—increased employment, wealth creation, socioeconomic development, and boundless growth potential. And mostly as a result of special international trade promotion and business development initiatives, various other business communities in the US (Asian, Hispanic, women, etc.) are directly benefiting from the bottom-line rewards of “going International.” Over the past several decades African American-owned firms have made tremendous strides in the US domestic market and have successfully overcome daunting obstacles to become one of fastest growing business communities in the country. By adapting and applying leading-edge technologies, innovative management, corporate best-practices, and creative marketing strategies, a large number of these enterprises have laid a solid foundation for increased prosperity and continued growth. As a result, many of these firms are currently ready to take their ventures to the next level by accessing and expanding into the thriving markets of the global community.
